TL;DR

Born in Atlanta, based in LA. Worn many hats, lived many career chapters. Competitive skateboarder, 911 dispatcher, actor, business founder. Current chapter: building in big tech.

For more than 15 years, I’ve worked across industries and disciplines: design, media, technology, and business.

Those experiences have shaped how I see the world and approach my practice. I think of my skill set as an evolving Swiss Army knife. Each chapter adds new tools. Each project determines how I build with them.

Today, I’m on the Windows & Devices leadership team at Microsoft, serving as creative director and technical advisor to the CVP. I also teach at ArtCenter College of Design, consult, and build personal ventures through my studio.

Relevant Experience

Microsoft

In a horizontal, cross-disciplinary leadership role, I accelerate product development, drive emerging tech innovation (particularly around applied AI research), craft product narratives, and advance operational effectiveness. I operate at the intersection of business, experience, and technology (BXT).

Work Highlights

ArtCenter

I teach in the Interaction Design department, focusing on Interaction Design fundamentals product design, design systems, and rapid prototyping. My goal is to equip students with a versatile skill set, enabling them to go from idea to high-fidelity proof of concept quickly. We cover a range of methodologies, tools, and programming, while learning the importance of storytelling in creating clarity and alignment.

I also run a portfolio lab, mentoring students as they prepare for internships, graduation, and their first industry roles.

Made by Portal

I co-founded Made by Portal, a full-service digital design firm, and bootstrapped it from the ground up—balancing running and scaling the business, securing clients, and delivering high-quality work on tight deadlines, often all at once.

Without venture funding, we had to be agile and resourceful, assembling the right talent, workflow pipelines, and business infrastructure. Our nimble, bespoke model enabled faster delivery and better outcomes through a streamlined talent pipeline.

While we provided a range of design services, our most notable work was in web development, motion graphics & VFX, brand identity, and content strategy, working with both small businesses and larger enterprises.

Creative (various)

Over the past decade, I have worked across television, film, advertising, and digital media in a range of creative and strategic roles, from acting in TV & film to production, creative direction, content strategy, research, and advertising. These experiences gave me firsthand insight into audience engagement, storytelling mechanics, and creative execution at scale, perspectives I continue to apply today.

Guiding Principles

Operations

Build the conditions for the work. The ambition has to shape how the work gets done. I build teams, tools, and processes around what the idea requires, and question inherited ways of working when they limit what we can make.

Creative Technology

Work with the material to find the idea. I treat technology as a creative medium. Building in code and experimenting with emerging tools is how I discover possibilities, test assumptions, and let what I learn reshape the direction.

Design

Make the detail accountable to the whole. An interaction can work beautifully on its own and still make the product harder to understand. I move between individual moments and the broader experience, using each to challenge and refine the other.

Storytelling

Use story to make complex ideas resonate. Story establishes what matters, what needs context, and what can fall away. I use it to connect the larger ambition to something people can understand, see themselves in, and act on.

Leadership & Management Approach

Stay close to the work. Make room for others to own it. I’ve led as a founder, a design lead, an educator, and an advisor to executive leadership. Each role calls for a different balance of making, directing, and supporting others. I stay close to the hard parts and make the reasoning behind decisions visible, so people can challenge the thinking and make informed calls of their own. That means knowing when to build alongside someone, offer guidance, or step back and let them lead.

Roles I've held

My skill set runs the gamut, each project introduces new disciplines, methodologies, tools, and processes. At its core, my work is about building systems, crafting seamless experiences, pushing tech boundaries, and using storytelling to bring ideas to life.
